Summer

Summer is here. Sunny days, no rain, but the evenings and mornings are still on the cool side for the second week in August.
Visit some hazelnut orchards - nuts sizing nicely but crop yi3ld looks down. The Ennis nut crop looks very good, Barcelona looks down.
Corn showing up in the local fruit stands.

  1. Hi Ross,
It's nice to read your blog. Here around Mt.Pisgah, for the most part, our plants are prolific. Not so for our blueberries (Dukes) and our raspberries. Some of the raspberries plants started out brownish and puny, the berries, though tasty, are very small. Other plants look better but the berries are pretty small. I am wondering if the raspberries if doing poorly because they are old. Might it be time to start over with them?

  2. This year, raspberries have severe root rot. These will need to be replaced.
    Very poor pollination, small berries.
Drop a sample off at the Extension office, 783 Grant Street, M-Th 10-1 and 2-5 to verify root rot.
